Barn Manager and Head Trainer
Dilen is a 4th generation crazy horsewoman, born and raised in the wilds of Gonzales, Louisiana. Brought up in her mother’s hunter stable, she lived and breathed horses, starting her formal riding lessons at 6.
Dilen claims that some of her most valuable lessons in horsemanship were learned shortly after her family made the move to Tennessee. Her green Welsh/Arabian cross taught her endless amounts of patience, determination, and seat grip. When hacking out bareback on her family’s 60 acres, she gradually learned to FEEL what she had been taught her whole life. Ever since, she has had a passion to find that feel with each new horse she touches.
Dilen’s journey out west began at 18, with an opportunity to work as a mule guide on the north rim of the Grand Canyon. There she fell in love with and gained a great respect for the western lifestyle, especially vaquero traditions. Since then, she has worked brandings in northern Arizona and as an assistant trainer, gentling and starting untouched mustangs for an amazing TIP program. All the while striving to leave each horse softer, and better than before. Dilen believes that no one horse is the same, and that is crucial to understanding the needs in each training client. Their individuality is what fuels her to continue with her dream.
Dilen is now married to her wonderful husband, Ethan. They have a pup named Charlie, and her personal mustang, Vincent. Because she believes we will never finish our learning journey, she continues to learn and grow by pushing herself to constantly study the masters: Buck Brannaman, Pat Puckett, George Morris, John French, and others.
Mustang gentling is a fascinating process that bridges the gap between wild horses and human companionship. Witnessing their transformation from wild to willing partner is incredibly rewarding!
Groundwork for horses is a necessary foundation in horse training, involving interactions with the horse while they are on the ground. It serves as a safe and effective platform for developing a strong relationship with the horse and preparing them for riding.
Colt starting is a crucial phase in a young horse’s education. During this process, we introduce the horse to fundamental concepts that prepare them for riding.
Horse Training Tune-Ups are essential for maintaining and enhancing a horse’s skills and responsiveness. If your horse needs to be de-winterized or hasn't been rode in months or even years, it's time for tune up training!
